A TOUGH TO FIND VARIATION! AND IF YOU HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR A CLEAN ONE, THIS IS THE ONE.
You are looking at a BLUE-gray American Flyer 632 DIE CAST Virginian hopper. The book calls it metal blue, but it is really more of a toned down metallic blue with a gray hue.
The 632 was a staple of early sets, however, THIS one is from 1948. It is different from other 632s as it is blue, Virginian and it is die cast. The blue version is the earliest and most desirable  variation listed.
This one even still has all four sheet metal bay doors underneath.
There are a few interesting variations and combinations of this car: plastic, diecast, LNE, Virginian, with journals, without journals, gray, black, light gray...make sure you have them all! Check out our other listings right now for more of these variations--if you are fast enough!

INTERESTING FACT: The bluish LNE version has been sold on ebay a few times in the last year. Not so for the Virginian blue. Do not pass this opportunity up.
It is possible that this is a 1946 with updated couplers/trucks from 1948.
CONDITION:
Nice car, nice lettering. Really clean with nice printing. One step and some of the small supports on the corner are missing. Clean paint job. Printing is still sharp. With the bottom metal bay chutes that open and close; all four metal doors are present.
