Rare and original, ca1900 Glass Top, Cast Iron, Key Wind, Advertising Countertop Cigar Cutter. This rare, Advertising Cigar Cutter measures approx. 3 3/4” tall and 7” by 5 1/4” at the base.
This rare, cast iron, Advertising Cigar Cutter advertises “Richard Peters" Cigars manufactured by Imhoff & Co, of Denver, Pennsylvania. The Cutter was manufactured by Brunhoff Manufacturing Company of Cincinnati, Ohio and carries the manufacturer’s mark cast into the base.
This all original, Cast Iron Cigar features a glass plate top with an applied, embossed, chromolithograph cigar-label type advertising depicting the First Secretary of War of the United States Richard Peters. There is an opening in the glass top plate of the Cutter into which the tip of a cigar can be inserted. Pressure on the metal plate at this opening triggers the mechanism of the Cutter which activates a rapid cutting action by an internal blade that nips off the end of the Cigar. As stated above, the mechanism is in excellent working condition - the blade is sharp and all mechanical parts are original.
This very rare and attractive, ca1900 Key Wind, Brunhoff Countertop Advertising Cigar Cutter is in very good condition. The Cutter is complete and sound and in excellent working condition. The Cigar Cutter retains 80% or more of its original, thick, red enamel paint on the base and the thick, original glass top plate is well preserved with a single, tiny flake along the top edge but no other damage of any kind. The applied advertising illustration is original and very attractive with some very minor loss at the edges.
